Scott talks about ultra marathoning. Tristan outs a recovering drug addict. And Jacqueline confuses Rocky with Rocky and Bulwinkle.

034 - The Usual Suspects

June 7, 2017

The Usual Suspects! A Classic crime noir thriller, or derivative and kinda boring? Listen in as we are joined by friend of the show Anthony Easton. Anthony is a music critic, artist, film lover, and Channing Tatum apologist. They take things to a whole new level of esoteric and nerdy and fun. We take guesses at the plot and discuss the sexual politics of profanity. Brandon ruins the film for himself with a simple Google search. Tristan gets sleepy. And Anthony might get us sued by Kevin Spacey.

Major Spoilers include:
Magic Mike XXL, Foxcatcher, Jupiter Rising, Tumbledown, Snatch, Snake Eyes, Hannibal Rising, Se7en, House of Cards, American Beauty, To Live and Die in LA

Minor Spoilers include:
Magic Mike, The Big Short, The Shack, The Pianist, Hercules, Go, Boondock Saints, Carey, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2

033 - Alien Covenant

May 25, 2017

Horror, horror, and more horror on this episode as we mark the 3rd appearance of one of our good friends Jonas Lucas from the Horror Commentary podcast. We keep our conversation about as on topic as we have ever been (look at the spoilers...there's hardly anything on there!) as we discuss the Alien franchise, mourn the absence of fellow co-host Brandon from this episode (because his fear of horror movies makes for some great content and entertainment) and then take to the actual movie theatres to watch the movie!

We recorded the second half of our conversation straight out of the gates of finishing the movie...right smack dab in the middle of the arcade of Stoney Creek's Cineplex....so excuse the air hockey sounds...

Spoilers:
Alien
Predator v.s. Alien
Prometheus
Star Wars
Paranormal Activity

Steve's a fan of the podcast and big movie lover, so much so that he travelled from England to check out the shooting locations for Scott Pilgrim across Toronto. We discuss Canadian/ Ontario culture and snack foods. Brandon wonders why he's never seen this movie. And we talk about Michael Cera's gross mustache.

031 - The Last of the Mohicans

April 5, 2017

In this episode we watch the classic Daniel Day Lewis period piece "The Last of the Mohicans." With some trepidation about cultural appropriation we take stabs at the plot of the movie. But first we discuss how crazy dangerous Australia is. "Australians are bonkers. That's why we sent criminals there." Tristan had a big movie weekend, in that he watched two movies on the weekend: Hacksaw Ridge and Logan. He's kinda over violence in movies. Brandon rips into Patrick Stewart's American accent...as always, Brandon and Tristan talk A LOT about accents.

Major:
Hacksaw Ridge
Logan
Green Room

Minor:
Fly Boys
X-Men Origins
The Wolverine
Gangs of New York
Pocahontas

030 - Jerry Maguire

March 20, 2017
After last episodes ill-fated (for some) leap into the modern and cheesy, we take a couple steps backward to return to the iconic, the still cheesy, the memorable – Jerry Maguire. Somehow neither of us had seen this lovely Tom Cruise flick – but by the end of the episode it wasn’t all that surprising since apparently Brandon hasn’t seen any Tom Cruise films...not even Mission Impossible...

If you were there then you’ll already know this, but we hosted our first live event! We streamed our chat on Instagram live for the first time (@canningbrandon & @wooboypersaud) which is a benchmark for this podcast, and we enjoyed it so much, we might just do it again so STAY TUNED on INSTAGRAM!
Did you know dogs and bees can smell fear? That bass fishing is actually the most dangerous game?

- Minor Spoilers -
Logan
Alien Covenant
Harry Potter
Predator
Star Wars
Casablanca
Vanilla Sky

029 - The Shack | On The Road Special Episode

March 10, 2017

Welcome to the first "On The Road" special episode of Cinefails! In this episode, Tristan and Brandon grabbed their recorder, jumped in the car, and made their way out to the 'burbs to watch The Shack. Because this is our first episode like this sound is not the best especially when we leave the theatre and enter a wind storm, BUT the conversation is pretty great. We talk about reading The Shack in highschool, why so many Evangelicals are angry that God could be nice, and whether or not this movie can be called "good." Along the way you'll get major spoilers for "The Shack" and "Miracles from Heaven."

February 25, 2017

It's Oscar season and everyone is talking about the best movies of 2016. So we decided to watch what is potentially the worst movie ever. Dubbed "The Citizen Kane of bad movies," The Room tells the story - kinda - of Johnny a man whose life comes crashing all around him. 026 - Alien

February 7, 2017

On this episode, our good buddy Jonas from over at the Horror Commentary podcast comes on the show to walk us through an iconic horror film...Alien...so you know it's gonna be good.

This episode is also dedicated to the late Sir John Hurt, who passed away the week of this episode's recording, and for whom we are indebted for the existence of this film.

All-in-all you can expect to hear us make fun of some deaf people, deconstruct cliché film devices, soil our pants, accuse someone of ripping their fingernail off with a certain apendage, talk some smack about 'the man', corporations, and all that punk rock jazz (punk rock jazz should be a thing), and according to Brandon 'maybe' an android looses his head...maybe...you'll just have to listen and find out!
